Pet Move (New Zealand)
The system for bringing pets is very similar to that of Australia.
REQUIRED PROCEDURE
In order to bring in a dog/cat, it must be brought in by a manifested air cargo and is not allowed to be personally carried in.
- Book a quarantine facility for 10 days (either in Auckland or Christchurch).
- After the quarantine facility location is confirmed, an import permit can be applied.
- Internal parasite treatment. (We suggest the use of Drontal Plus.)
First treatment is 30 days, and at least 14 days before the second treatment.
Second treatment must be 4 days prior to the departure date. - External parasite treatment (We suggest the use of Frontline.)

Second treatment must be 2 days prior to the departure date. - Heartworm treatment and testing (for dogs only).
Ivermectin at 6mcg/kg within four days prior.
Blood testing by ELISA test within 30 days prior. - Babesia Givsoni testing (for dogs only)
Blood testing either by IFA or ELISA within 16 days prior. - Brucella Canis testing
Blood testing by RSAT test within 16 days prior. - Leptospirosis (for dogs only)
Blood testing by MAT test within 30 days prior. - Health check examination
Wthin two days prior.

Although rabies vaccination is not mandatory, because the New Zealand quarantine facility requires it, we recommend that rabies vaccination be done while in Japan.
